Author Crum and performer Raffi featured at Early Childhood Conference

Author Shutta Crum and children's recording artist Raffi will be the keynote speaker and special guest for the Southwest Virginia Early Childhood Conference sponsored by The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.

The conference, slated for Saturday, April 28, is a community service event for educators working in kindergarten through third-grade. The conference begins at 8:30 am in the Fred. B. Greear Gymnasium.

The UVa-Wise Center for Teaching Excellence, UVa-Wise Education Department and the Student Virginia Education Association are sponsoring the conference.

Crum, author of children’s books and poetry for adults, is a storyteller, public speaker and librarian. She has penned more than a dozen books and has written hundreds of articles on teaching and learning.

Raffi is known for his work as a children’s entertainer and has a string of gold and platinum-selling recordings in North America, including the classic “Baby Beluga.” He is also an author and founder of Child Honoring.

The conference will include workshops, displays, vendors, door prizes, light lunch, silent auction on SVEA’s themed teaching baskets and a Teacher’s Market that allows veteran educators to bring previously used learning tools to sell toother teachers.
