Michael "O' D" O'Donnell is signing copies of his latest book "O'D II: Life Lessons: You don't need a reason to help someone," in the Slemp Student Center Atrium, today, Thursday, Oct. 2, until 2 p.m.

Band festival set for Oct. 19

 

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise and the Marching Highland Cavaliers will host the second annual CAV-L-CADE of Bands on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013.

Gates will open at 1:30 p.m. and the competition begins at 3 p.m. Bands from three states will compete for the prestigious Chancellor's Cup and a $1,000 prize.

Patrick Henry High School from Glade Spring, Va. won the inaugural cup last year. Scheduled to compete this year are: Letcher County Central High from Whitesburg, Ky., Alcoa High from Alcoa, Tenn., Morristown East High from Morristown, Tenn., Castlewood High from Castlewood, Va., Union High from Big Stone Gap, Va., Eastside High from Coeburn, Va., and Virginia High from Bristol, Va.

There is still time for band directors to register their bands, and the cutoff date will be Oct. 5. Bands will compete in Carl Smith Stadium on the campus of UVa-Wise.

In case of inclement weather, the contest will move to the David J. Prior Convocation Center.
