Charlotte Dison featured in fall Alumni Lecture Series
The University
of Virginia’s College at Wise is continuing its Alumni Lecture Series to bring
distinguished alumni to campus to discuss how their college experience
influenced their careers.
The public is
invited to attend the event.
Charlotte Dison,
president of Dison Enterprises and a graduate of the first incoming class of
Clinch Valley College, will deliver her lecture about her story on Friday, Sept.
28 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths.
Dison graduated
with honors from Lynchburg Hospital School of Nursing and then came to Wise to
work at the United Mine Workers’ hospital.
She was encouraged by her colleagues to further her education by
becoming a member of the first incoming class of then Clinch Valley
College. She received one of the first
Outpost Awards for her achievement as a student at CVC.
Dison continued
her education at Florida State University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude
from the accredited BSN completion program for registered nurses. She then continued her work with Miners’
Hospital for a year before going to Columbia University to gain a master’s
degree in nursing administration, minoring in education. She became adjunct faculty at the University
of Miami and Miami Dade College. Dison
received the inaugural Nurse Executive Leadership award from the American
Association of Nurse Executive, was inducted into the Nursing Education Hall of
Fame at the Teacher’s College at Columbia University and the Nursing Hall of
Fame by the Florida Nurses Association.
Cultural activity
credit is available for the lecture.

are selected based on their leadership and achievements in their chosen
fields. The organizers welcome
