Children invited to learn and play at UVa-Wise Funtasia Sept. 25

Characters from classic children’s books and popular animated television shows are all part of this year’s Funtasia at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise on Sept. 25.

Funtasia, sponsored by the Student Virginia Education Association, the Student Government Association and Student Activity Fees, begins at noon in the Betty Gilliam Sculpture Garden and ends at 4 p.m. In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Fred. B. Greear Gymnasium.

Funtasia boosts literacy by encouraging children to read and enjoy a good story. The event features games, activities, food, prizes, inflatables and a silent auction for themed baskets. The event will also feature an adventure train in the Smurf Village, an AirBot slide for Woody and friends and a castle bouncer for the palace. A character book parade begins at noon. Admission is free, but most games cost 50 cents. An adult must accompany children.

Money raised during Funtasia is used to purchase coats, clothes and toys during the holiday season for children in need. SVEA also accepts donations of used books, toys or clothing that are appropriate for young children.
