Confederate outlaw Champ Ferguson is topic of April ‘Lunch and Learn’

Brian McKnight, associate professor of history, will discuss his new book, “Confederate Outlaw: Champ Ferguson and the Civil War in Appalachia,” on April 20.

McKnight’s first book, “Contested Borderland,” won the 2006 James I. Robertson Literary Prize for Confederate History.  He has served as editor of a number of community history projects focusing on coal towns, contributed to the historical background information for the UVa-Wise Wetlands Trail and served on the advisory boards of the Fort Concho National Historic Landmark and the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum.

The presentation takes place in Zehmer Hall, Room 118, from 1-2 p.m., on Wednesday, April 20.  Water and an assortment of soft drinks will be provided.

Faculty “Lunch and Learn” presentations take place on the third Wednesday of each month during the semester.  The series is designed to showcase the extraordinary work and research being done by UVa-Wise faculty.  Everyone is welcome and invited to bring their lunch to these sessions.
