Theater to present Shakespeare’s ‘Tempest’ in March
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Theater will stage William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” as its first production in the new Gilliam Center for the Arts.
The Tempest, one of Shakespeare’s last plays, is a powerful meditation on the nature of love, forgiveness and “such stuff as dreams are made on.” An exiled duke entraps his betrayers on a spirit-filled and magical island where by trials they are all redeemed and together create a “brave new world.”
The play will be presented at the Gilliam Center for the Arts on March 19 and March 22-27 at 8 p.m. A March 21 performance is set for 2 p.m.
Tickets are $5 and are available at the door. Performances are free to UVa-Wise students, faculty and staff. Reservations are not required or taken.
