UVa-Wise to celebrate Black History Month
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will hold several special events throughout February in celebration of Black History Month.
The events commence on Feb. 7 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths with SongFest, featuring performances by Rev. Jake Ravizee, Changed, Ain’t I a Woman?, Heavenly Voices, Rich & Poor Frankie and others.
On Feb. 12, a soul food dinner will be served in the Smith Dining Commons from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.
On Valentine’s Day, the Black History Committee will hand out red ribbons in the Slemp Student Center in support of HIV testing. The Wise County Health Department and the UVa-Wise Center for Student Development sponsor the HIV awareness program.
Edward R. Hutchinson will speak on the topic “Freedom is Not Free” on Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. in Cantrell Hall.
