UVa-Wise celebrates Homecoming 2010 Sept. 30-Oct. 2

Reunions, the popular alumni picnic, alumni art show and football are among the events featured as The University of Virginia’s College at Wise celebrates Alumni Homecoming 2010 from Sept. 30 to Oct. 2. 
 
“Memories & Milestones” is the homecoming theme this year as UVa-Wise celebrates the 50th reunion of the Class of 1960 and the cluster reunion for the Classes of 1979-81. Alumni and their families are invited to enjoy food, music and fun at the alumni picnic on Oct. 2 at noon on the Lawn by the Lake.
 
Hundreds of alumni from Virginia and beyond return to the campus each year to participate in Homecoming activities. The community is invited to the festivities as well.
 
A complete schedule of Alumni Homecoming events follows:
 
Homecoming officially begins at 5 p.m. Thursday, Spt. 30, with the Meet the Cavs pep rally, where participants have an opportunity to meet the Highland Cavalier football team and enjoy campus group competitions for the Silver Saber Spirit Award. The event takes place at the Lawn by the Lake.
 
The alumni art show is set for Sept. 29-Oct. 3 in the Gilliam Center for the Arts Gallery 121.
 
On Friday, Oct. 1, the Class of 1960 will reunite for a luncheon at the C. Bascom Slemp Student Center at 11:30 a.m. A reunion is set for 6 p.m. in the C. Bascom Slemp Student Center for the Classes of 1979, 1980 and 1981. 
 
Homecoming 2010 continues on Saturday, Oct. 2, with a full day of events.
 
The SGA Red & Gray 5K and 1 Mile Walk begins at 8 a.m. with registration at 7 a.m. at the Fred B. Greear Gymnasium.
 
The College celebrates 20 years of football with a reunion of players, coaches and staff from seasons past at 10:30 a.m. in Cantrell Hall.
 
The popular alumni picnic gets underway at the Lawn by the Lake at noon. The Highland Cavaliers take on West Virginia Tech at 2:30 p.m. at Carl Smith Stadium Tickets are $5 for adults Admission is free for children, K-12 students and current UVa-Wise students holding a valid ID.
 
The Student Government Association holds the annual Homecoming dance at the Holiday Inn in Norton beginning at 9 p.m. The alumni dance takes place at 
8 p.m. at The Inn at Norton.
