UVa-Wise men’s cross-country runner Shaquon Wilkins has been named Mountain East Conference runner of the week for his performance at the Golden Eagle Invitational. Wilkins won the Golden Eagle Invitational with a time of 19:26 in the 6 kilometer event. The time was nearly 30 seconds ahead of the closest competitor.

Temple Grandin, an animal scientist who was the subject of an award-winning HBO film will visit The University of Virginia’s College at Wise this fall as part of the Colgate Darden Lecture Series.
Local inspirational author, Phil Timp will visit The University of Virginia’s College at Wise on Sept. 4 at 4 p.m. to meet with those in attendance and to sign his autobiography.
The event, which will be held in the Dogwood Room of the C. Bascom Slemp Student Center, is sponsored by the UVa-Wise Nursing Department.
In conjunction with Sidearm Sports, the UVa-Wise Sports Information Department has just completed a redesign of the school's official athletic website, www.uvawisecavs.com.
The website now features new graphics of former and current-student athletes along with a more user friendly interface. The site is fully integrated with both Twitter and Facebook allowing fans to interact with other Cavalier fans on social media sites about stories, rosters and results.
Wally Smith, a biologist and professor with The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, will appear on “With Good Reason,” a radio production of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, during the week of July 13 through July 19.
