UVa-Wise holds December Recognition of Graduates ceremony

 

Chancellor Donna P. Henry conferred degrees to 53 students of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Friday during the December Recognition of Graduates ceremony.

The event, held in the David J. Prior Convocation Center, featured an address by Ruby Rogers, coordinator for the gifted education program with Scott County Public Schools. Rogers, a 1974 graduate of the College, also serves on the UVa-Wise College Board.

Herpetologists may spend their entire careers studying amphibians and reptiles without encountering Aneides aeneus, an elusive lungless critter known informally as a green salamander. 

Celebrate the Holidays with 'The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!'

 

The “You’ll Never Work in Theater Again” players, a new local community theater troupe, will be performing The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, based on the award winning book by Barbara Robinson. Performances will be held at the Gilliam Center for the Arts on the campus of UVa-Wise Wednesday, Dec. 4 and Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7.   

UVa-Wise sophomore gives gift of life

 

Many people will give and receive special gifts this holiday season, but Destiny Baker, a sophomore at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, gave a Tennessee resident a second change at life by donating a kidney.

UVa-Wise junior researches thyroid disorders in Appalachia

 

Maddison Couch, a junior at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, spent last summer researching thyroid disorders in the Central Appalachia after both her grandmother and mother were diagnosed with thyroid-related syndromes. 

First MEC basketball set for Saturday

Fans attending Saturday's game will not only see the first Mountain East Conference game in school history, they will also receive a free t-shirt and "Cavalier Cookies." A tradition that started this fall with the first MEC home contest in each sport will continue throughout the academic year as the athletic department celebrates the inaugural MEC season.

Additionally, any time the Cavaliers score 90 or more points in a home game this season, everyone in attendance will receive a free biscuit from Uncle Freds Gas Grub 'N Suds the following morning.

Whitehurst says entrepreneurship more important than ever

 

Bruce Whitehurst, president of the Virginia Bankers Association, said entrepreneurship is a fundamental part of the United States and must be talked about, studied and supported as much as possible.
