Several members of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise faculty were presented with faculty awards this spring.
Professor Lucian Undreiu and Professor Robin Woodard received the Outstanding Teaching Award, presented to a faculty member who excels in classroom teaching and who works particularly well with students.
Professor John Mark Adrian received the Outstanding Service Award, given to those who have made significant contributions to UVa-Wise and the community.
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, Mountain Empire Community College and Southwest Virginia Community College announced the receipt of a generous gift that will boost thousands of college students in Southwest Virginia.
The Darden Society of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise added 53 new members during its induction ceremony on May 1.
The eighth annual David Tipton Memorial Scholarship Fund Concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 28, in the black box theater in the Gilliam Center for the Arts at UVa-Wise. The concert is an excellent opportunity for those who enjoyed the Jazz Ensemble’s performances at recent events such as the PRISM Concert and the Chancellor’s Inauguration to come enjoy much of the same program in a concert setting.
R. Gary Pumphrey, associate professor of geography at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, will speak on aquifer depletion on the campus of UVa-Wise on Thursday, April 24.

Donna Price Henry was formally installed Tuesday as the eighth chancellor of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise in front of a large crowd of faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends.
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will inaugurate Donna Price Henry as its eighth Chancellor on April 22. A variety of events are scheduled during the month to celebrate the traditional induction that marks a leadership change at a college's highest level.
Coeburn native Brett Hall has been fascinated with government and politics for as long as he can remember. He grew up listening to the opinions and thoughts of customers in his family’s shop, and talk could turn quite interesting in a gun and pawnshop.
Poet Sofia M. Starnes will deliver the keynote address during the 2014 Commencement exercises at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise on Saturday, May 10, at 11 a.m. on the Lawn by the Lake.
Pulitzer Prize winner Stephen Greenblatt, the Cogan University Professor of English and American Literature and Language at Harvard University, will lecture on campus on April 17.
