Whitehurst to deliver Nov. 18 lecture at UVa-Wise

Bruce T. Whitehurst, president and chief executive officer of the Virginia Bankers Association, will speak at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise on Nov. 18 as part of the Alfred and Shirley Wampler Caudill Lecture in Entrepreneurship Series.

UVa-Wise will commemorate the milestone anniversary of the printing of Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” on Nov. 11 with “Austen’s Powers,” a panel discussion set for 1 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths.

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Concert Choir will present “A Tapestry of Carols” with Central, Eastside and Union high schools as special guests. 

Coffee Night set for Nov. 7 in Chapel of All Faiths

 

The public is invited to join the Jimson Weed literary journal, the Department of Language and Literature, and the Department of Communication Studies at UVa-Wise on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 6:30 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths for Coffee Night, a reading / performance event dedicated to the poetry and prose of campus and community writers.

Taste of Home Cooking School set for Prior Center on Nov. 19

 

Culinary specialist Cheryl Cohen will be at the David J. Prior Convocation Center on the campus of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at the Taste of Home Cooking School Show.

Reid to deliver keynote at Napoleon Hill Day

 

Motivational speaker Greg Reid will deliver the keynote address at the annual Napoleon Hill Day on Oct. 28 at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.

Reid is also a noted author published in 30 foreign languages and co-author of the best seller “Three Feet From Gold” with Sharon Lechter and the Napoleon Hill Foundation.

Welch featured on C-Span's 'Books TV'

Wendy Welch, director of the Graduate Medical Education Consortium of Southwest Virginia, was a featured author at the Southern Festival of the Book, held in Nashville earlier this month.

Welch discussed her work "The Little Bookstore of Big Stone Gap: a memoir of community, friendship, and the uncommon pleasure of a good book" (St. Martin's Press) on C-Span's Books TV.

Wilkins named Mountain East Conference runner of the week

UVa-Wise men’s cross-country runner Shaquon Wilkins has been named Mountain East Conference runner of the week for his performance at the Golden Eagle Invitational.  Wilkins won the Golden Eagle Invitational with a time of 19:26 in the 6 kilometer event. The time was nearly 30 seconds ahead of the closest competitor.
