Wright to lecture at UVa-Wise on Nov. 11
Jack Wright, a retired professor from Ohio University’s School of Film, will speak about his experiences as a UVa-Wise student during the Vietnam War on Friday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m.
Wright, who made his reputation as a musician and advocate for the Appalachia region and its people, will lecture in the Dogwood Room of the C. Bascom Slemp Center. The UVa-Wise Lecture Committee is sponsoring the event.
The native of Wise attended what was then Clinch Valley College from 1969-71. He helped found Appalshop in 1973. In addition to various recording ventures, Wright was instrumental in the development and production of the critically acclaimed album “Music of Coal.”
The public is invited to the lecture. UVa-Wise students will receive cultural credit for attending.
