Daniel chemistry professorship established at UVa-Wise
The University of Virginia Board of Visitors has established the Van W. Daniel III Professorship in Chemistry at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.
Funds to honor Daniel by establishing a permanent endowed professorship in his name were provided by anonymous donors. The professorship honors Daniel’s extraordinary and longtime service to UVa-Wise, its students and the Department of Natural Sciences.
“In my long career at the College, I have received several awards recognizing my service and teaching, but this is certainly the most significant honor that I have received and it is the one I will remember forever,” Daniel said. “I never expected to receive such an honor for simply doing a job that I love and that has rewarded me in so many ways.”
The endowed professorship will “make a strong science program stronger” and will “expand opportunities for collaborative research with students,” Daniel said while expressing his gratitude for the donors.
Daniel, professor of chemistry, has served UVa-Wise since 1970. He spent much of that time as chair of the Department of Natural Sciences. His unwavering and extraordinary commitment to the College, his students and the department has been instrumental in the College’s continuing growth and achievements in the natural sciences.
