Author Wendy Welch to conduct workshop and lecture at UVa-Wise

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Lecture Committee and Pro-Art are sponsoring a workshop and lecture this month by Wendy Welch, author of the popular “The Little Bookstore of Big Stone Gap.”

Welch will conduct a writer’s workshop on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Gladeville Room of Cantrell Hall. The workshop is co-sponsored by the lecture committee and Pro-Art.

Boyce is Mid-South Player of the Week

 

Deon Boyce, a UVa-Wise junior, is the Mid-South Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

The conference weekly award is Boyce's first of the season and of his career.

UVa-Wise plans Jan. 21 Martin Luther King, Jr. remembrance ceremony

 

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will celebrate the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. with the 17th Annual Remembrance ceremony on Monday, Jan. 21.

Virginia “Game Guy” to entertain UVa-Wise fans on Jan. 19

 

Fans of UVa-Wise basketball will see a little more “game” during halftime of the Jan. 19 matchup between the Cavaliers and St. Catharine as the Virginia Game Guy visits the David J. Prior Convocation Center.

The fall 2012 Dean’s List at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise includes 361 students.

Donna Price Henry appointed chancellor of UVa-Wise

December 7, 2012: University of Virginia President Teresa A. Sullivan announced today that Donna Price Henry will serve as the eighth chancellor of the College at Wise.

MEC applies for NCAA Division II conference

The 12 institutions that announced the formation of the Mountain East Conference in August have officially applied for approval to begin competing as the NCAA’s newest Division II conference in 2013-14.

The MEC’s formal application, signed by the presidents of all 12 institutions was hand-delivered to NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis on Friday along with all supporting documentation. 

UVa-Wise names Volunteer and Benefactor of the Year

William J. Sturgill and Teresa A. Sullivan

The Estate of Carol Phipps Buchanan was honored as Benefactor of the Year and William J. Sturgill ’56 was named Volunteer of the Year during the 2012 Benefactors Celebration, held recently in the David J.Prior Convocation Center.

Fall Choirs Concert set for Dec. 11

 

The UVa-Wise Department of Visual and Performing Arts Division of Music will present its Fall Choirs Concert, Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, in the Cantrell Banquet Hall.  The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. 

Chamber Choir to present Christmas music on Dec. 16

 

The Chamber Choir at UVa-Wise will present a program of Christmas music on Sunday, Dec. 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths on the UVa-Wise campus.  The program is free and open to the public.
