Upcoming Events:

Fall Picnic

Join us on Thursday, August 28 as we gather at Camp Bethel for the annual welcome-back picnic.  We’ll eat dinner, play games (basketball, volleyball, Frisbee, etc.), and/or just hang out.  You’ll also have the option to swim in the crystal clear (alright, slightly green) waters of the lake, bound off the diving board, and carom down the slide.  The new Honors students will also be in attendance, so please plan to come out and make them feel welcome.  Transportation to and from campus will be provided.

Museum of SW Virginia

Get to know the history and culture of your new (or native) home by joining us on this day-trip to nearby Big Stone Gap on Saturday, Sept. 13.  We’ll spend some time looking at the exhibits, which chronicle “the exploration and development of Southwest Virginia from the pioneer era of the 1700s to the mining ‘boom and bust’ era of the late 1800s” and beyond.  We will also plan to swing by Tales of the Lonesome Pine used bookstore and perhaps even make a blizzard-themed visit to Dairy Queen.

Fall Trip to the Outer Banks, NC

On Sunday, October 12 we will depart on our Fall Break trip to the Outer Banks.  A narrow band of barrier islands 40 miles east of the North Carolina mainland, the Outer Banks is an area of outstanding natural beauty and historical significance.  During our stay, we will visit the site of the Lost Colony of 1587, climb the steps of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, make a pilgrimage to the Wright Brothers Monument, and check out the local Shipwreck and Native American museums.  In the interest of retracing the steps of those first coastal residents, we will also spend considerable time at the beach.  We will return to Wise on Saturday, October 18.
