Academic Advising : AP Credit

The University of Virginia's College at Wise accepts Advanced Placement (AP) credits on bases enumerated in the College's catalog.  Most disciplines require scores of 4 or higher; in some areas, a score of 3 may earn credit or advanced placement.  Scores typically are received by the College from the College Board in late summer and must be on file prior to the awarding of credits.  International Baccalaureate (IB) policy follows similar rules and IB standards are also found in the catalog.

Some departments award credit hours to students who  complete accelerated course work based on the College's own placement procedures (e.g., Eng 1030 Honors Composition or Mth 1210 Pre Calculus II).  Such credits depend on the placement as well as the grades earned and are awarded after the successful completion of the course.

In order to transfer a course from another university or community college, degree-seeking students must complete and submit a request to transfer a course form to the Registrar for approval. If approval is granted, then the student must submit an official transcript from that institution to UVa-Wise to receive credit for that course.
