Professor Abrar Qureshi, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Software Engineering

Department of Mathematics and Computer Science

UVA-WISE has a great learning environment because of the higher level of student teacher interaction. Small class sizes provide the opportunity for small-group discussions where participation and hands-on learning are a priority. There is a strong sense of community where students can make the most of their college experience.

Get to know your professors well, ask questions and participate in class discussions. Get involved in various activities in and around campus.

I have been to many different parts of the world including: India, Iran, Jordan, Thailand, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Philippines, Bahamas, and Canada. This has given me a unique opportunity to learn about different people and their cultures. I can also speak five different languages. Another interesting fact is that I like theme parks especially roller coasters. My favorite roller coaster is "Sheikra" at Busch Gardens, Florida.

I received a BS degree in Mathematics from the University of the Punjab, a BS in Electrical Engineering from Central Philippines University, a MS and Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Florida Institute of Technology.

I worked in the Industry for more than thirteen years and was last employed at GE where I worked on various software engineering projects, software development, database design, system/software test and automation, and quality assurance.

I am married to Sabrina and we have three children, Ali, Qasim, and Izah.

.

I have received various Leadership, Spot, Peer Recognition, Swift and other Awards while working at General Electric.

  • Outstanding support of the CNIC and Alaska rail programs (1999)
  • Outstanding efforts during system test (2001)
  • Outstanding work contribution during NS software development (2002)
  • Exceptional effort during Factory Acceptance Test (2003)
  • Efforts beyond the call of duty for software test development (2004)
  • Peer Recognition Award (2005)
  • Swift award (2005)
  • Outstanding contribution to the United Way campaign (2000-2006)
