Perkins leads Alumni Association
Rhonda M. Perkins, graduated from Clinch Valley College now The University of Virginia's College at Wise in 1973 with a BA in Business & Public Administration. She was employed by Paramount Coal Corporation and Pyxis Resources Company, subsidiaries of the Pittston Company, as Manager of Insurance, Employee Benefits and Public Relations until 1995. She was emplyed by Horizon Natural Resources as Director of Pension Plans until 2004.
Active in civic organizations, she served on the Wise County Chamber of Commerce as an Officer and President. She was named Citizen of the Year in 1995.
Perkins has served on the College's Board of Directors, Foundation Board and Alumni Board of Directors. Even while living in West Virginia, Kentucky, she remained an active participant on these Boards.
She previously served on the Mountain Empire Community College Foundation Board and served as member of the Raleigh County (Beckley, WV) American Cancer Society. She is active in the American Cancer Society-Wise County Relay for Life.
Rhonda currently lives in Abingdon, Virginia, with her husband, W. Scott Perkins. They have three children and one grandchild, Zane & Ashby Perkins and grandson, Zane Anthony of Wytheville, Virginia, Zach Perkins of Bluefield, Virginia, and Kara Perkins of Atlanta, Georgia.
"The purpose of this organization shall be to aid, strengthen, and expand the work and development of The University of Virginia's College at Wise through the involvement of the Alumni."
Alumni
Board of Directors
The
Alumni Association of The University of Virginia's College
at Wise consists of 30-members who are elected by
the alumni body. One third of the membership of the Board
changes in June with the annual elections. There is a great
opportunity to become involved with the College by serving on
your Alumni Board.
Executive Committee Members are:
The
President, President-Elect, Treasurer, Secretary, Parliamentarian,
Past-President, and the Alumni Director (ex-officio member
of all committees.) The Executive Committee reviews the
proposed budget, oversees financial matters, and serves as the core leaders of the Alumni Board.

At right, Alumni Board members at 2007 board retreat. The Alumni Board has four major committees and they include the Cavalier Alumni $elebration, Community Spring Swing Golf Tournament, Super Raffle, and the Alumni-Homecoming Weekend committee. Membership is open to all alumni.

If you are interested in joining the Alumni Board or one of its committees, contact the Alumni Relations Office at 276-328-0128 or e-mail us at alumni@uvawise.edu. The Alumni Board of Directors meet 9 times per year; normally on the second Tuesday of each month at Alumni Hall begin around 6 p.m. A summer retreat is held every year.
Responsibilities
of Board Members are to:

Attend
meetings regularly, Serve on one or more committees

the affairs of the Alumni Association

Represent
the ideas and interest of all alumni;be a representative
of the alumni body

as ambassadors of the College

Maintain
a high level of visibility within the
general Alumni body

Attend
College functions as a representative of the Alumni Board

Assist
in recruitment of additional alumni volunteers

Support
the decisions and work of the officers of the Alumni Association

Set short-term and
long-range goals, develop policies, and set objectives

Manage
the Alumni Association's finances appropriately

Oversee
the management of Alumni Hall

Assist
in fundraising efforts as needed and support projects financially,
when possible
