Travel to Gettysburg in June

A few spots remain for those who want to learn more about the Civil War during an affordable four-day trip to Gettysburg in June.

A small group will depart UVa-Wise on Monday, June 25, for a four day Civil War tour to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.  Day one will include a mid-trip stop in Lexington, Virginia. Days two and three will be spent on the battlefield at Gettysburg.  Day four will be the return trip with a stop at the New Market Battlefield.

'Looking up' exhibit in Gallery 121 until April 6

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will host the exhibit “Looking Up” by James Veenstra beginning on March 19 and ending on April 6 in Gallery 121.

Lonestar and Folk Soul Revival performing at UVa-Wise Convocation Center on March 30

Country sensation, Lonestar, will perform at the Convocation Center at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 8:30 p.m. The doors open at 6 p.m. with local band Folk Soul Revival opening the concert at 7 p.m.

Provost hosts roundtable discussion

J. Sanders Huguenin, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, is hosting an inaugural roundtable discussion with members of the UVa-Wise faculty who have recently published books.

‘Vinegar Tom’ set for late March and early April

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Theater Division of Visual and Performing Arts is presenting Caryl Churchill’s “Vinegar Tom” in the Gilliam Center for the Arts in late March and early April.

UVa-Wise Board names facility in honor of Chancellor Prior

A $30 million facility touted as a necessity for Southwest Virginia’s growth has been named in honor of the late David J. Prior, the UVa-Wise Chancellor who recognized and promoted the building’s economic development and educational potential.

Author Crum and performer Raffi featured at Early Childhood Conference

Author Shutta Crum and children's recording artist Raffi will be the keynote speaker and special guest for the Southwest Virginia Early Childhood Conference sponsored by The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.

The conference, slated for Saturday, April 28, is a community service event for educators working in kindergarten through third-grade. The conference begins at 8:30 am in the Fred. B. Greear Gymnasium.

The UVa-Wise Center for Teaching Excellence, UVa-Wise Education Department and the Student Virginia Education Association are sponsoring the conference.

Band Camp set for UVa-Wise Marching Highland Cavaliers

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Marching Highland Cavaliers will hold auditions for colorguard, drum major, majorettes and drum line on Saturday, April 28, at 9 a.m.

All current members and those wishing to be a part of the Marching Highland Cavaliers are required to audition.
