Virginia “Game Guy” to entertain UVa-Wise fans on Jan. 19
Fans of UVa-Wise basketball will see a little more “game”
during halftime of the Jan. 19 matchup between the Cavaliers and St. Catharine as
the Virginia Game Guy visits the David J. Prior Convocation Center.
UVa-Wise plans Jan. 21 Martin Luther King, Jr. remembrance ceremony
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will celebrate the life of Martin Luther King, Jr. with the 17th Annual Remembrance ceremony on Monday, Jan. 21.
Boyce is Mid-South Player of the Week
Deon
Boyce, a UVa-Wise junior, is the Mid-South Conference Men's Basketball Player
of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
The
conference weekly award is Boyce's first of the season and of his career.
Author Wendy Welch to conduct workshop and lecture at UVa-Wise
The University
of Virginia’s College at Wise Lecture Committee and Pro-Art are sponsoring a
workshop and lecture this month by Wendy Welch, author of the popular “The
Little Bookstore of Big Stone Gap.”
Welch will
conduct a writer’s workshop on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Gladeville
Room of Cantrell Hall. The workshop is co-sponsored by the lecture committee
and Pro-Art.
UVa-Wise "All Clear" Following Report of Alleged Gunman
WISE, Va -- The University of Virginia's College at Wise announced it has lifted the lockdown of campus following a report of an alleged gunman.
A student reported seeing a gunman near one of the residence halls and university officials issued a campus alert shortly before 9:00 p.m EST.
Campus and local law enforcement immediately conducted a building-by-building search. No gunman was identified.
Performances, panel discussions highlight Black History Month at UVa-Wise
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will celebrate Black History Month with many events throughout February.
Celebration events supporting the theme, “Learning from our Past to Pursue our Future,” extend into the arts, literature and history. All events are open to the public.
Black History Month begins Friday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths with a concert featuring the UVa-Wise String Ensemble, Highland Singers, Wise Guys and Chris Rose and Anthony Keys performing the works of many black musicians and composers.
UVa-Wise economic development director appointed to Rural Jobs Council

Blevins, director of economic development at The University of Virginia’s
College at Wise, has been appointed to serve on Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell’s
newly created Rural Jobs Council.
