The University of Virginia’s College at Wise and the Marching Highland
Cavaliers will host the second annual CAV-L-CADE of Bands on Saturday, Oct. 19,
Gates will open at 1:30 p.m. and the competition begins at 3 p.m. Bands
from three states will compete for the prestigious Chancellor's Cup and a $1,000
UVa-Wise men’s cross-country runner Shaquon Wilkins has been named Mountain East Conference runner of the week for his performance at the Golden Eagle Invitational. Wilkins won the Golden Eagle Invitational with a time of 19:26 in the 6 kilometer event. The time was nearly 30 seconds ahead of the closest competitor.
Wendy Welch, director of the Graduate Medical Education Consortium of Southwest Virginia, was a featured author at the Southern Festival of the Book, held in Nashville earlier this month.
Welch discussed her work "The Little Bookstore of Big Stone Gap: a memoir of community, friendship, and the uncommon pleasure of a good book" (St. Martin's Press) on C-Span's Books TV.
