Darden Society inducts new members

 

The Darden Society of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise added 53 new members during its induction ceremony on May 1.

Several members of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise faculty were presented with faculty awards this spring.
 
Professor Lucian Undreiu and Professor Robin Woodard received the Outstanding Teaching Award, presented to a faculty member who excels in classroom teaching and who works particularly well with students.


Professor John Mark Adrian received the Outstanding Service Award, given to those who have made significant contributions to UVa-Wise and the community. 

Commencement location change

Due to the threat of potential thunderstorms and heavy rains, The University of Virginia's College at Wise Commencement ceremony scheduled for Saturday, May 10 at 11a.m., has been moved to the David J. Prior Convocation Center.  The timing and schedule of events remain unchanged.

Two graduates commissioned as Army officers during commencement

 

Two members of the Class of 2014 were commissioned as second lieutenants in the United States Army during the May 10 Commencement at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.

UVa-Wise awards 313 degrees at Commencement 2014

 

Virginia Poet Laureate Sofia M. Starnes urged the 313 graduates of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise to search for beauty, be sensitive to what is right and to remain faithful to their core values as they build their futures.

 

Honor Societies at UVa-Wise gain new members

 

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise has announced that several students were inducted into various honor societies on campus following the completion of the 2013-2014 academic year.

Several students of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise received awards and recognition during the May 9, 2014 Honors Convocation ceremony. The event was held in the David J. Prior Convocation Center and drew a crowd of more than 400. The following students were honored for specific recognition from the various academic departments:

Shortt named UVa-Wise police chief

 

A veteran officer who has risen through the ranks for more than 20 years has been selected to head The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Campus Police Department.

Ronnie L. Shortt was named chief of campus police this spring. Shortt has been a member of the UVa-Wise Campus Police Department since 1992. Shortt replaces Steve McCoy, who recently retired.

Faculty Music Recital set for June 1

The public is cordially invited to attend a UVa-Wise Music Faculty Recital on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths on the UVa-Wise campus.  There is no admission charge.
 

D. Michael Donathan, Professor Emeritus of Music, Suzanna Masters, Instructor in Music, Cynthia Mueller, Instructor in Music, and Kathy Stewart, Instructor in Education will perform works by W. A. Mozart, Darius Milhaud, Frederic Chopin, and Johannes Brahms.
