Gillian Huang-Tiller, associate professor of English at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, will lecture on “The Poetics of Nothingness and E. E. Cummings’ Post-WWII Sonnetry in Xaipe” on Monday, April 19.

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will present PRISM 2010, its fifth annual gala dinner, silent auction and concert on Saturday, May 1, at 6 p.m.
The benefit concert has a new venue this year. The event will be staged in the Gilliam Center for the Arts. The facility opened last fall and houses all fine and performing arts programs.

Two rising seniors at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise were recently recognized as outstanding athletes by the Highland Cavalier Club.
Richard Davidson, president of the Highland Cavalier Club, announced that $1,000 scholarships would be awarded to Kaitlyn Collins of Russell County and Spencer Adams of Wise County.
“We are proud of both Kaitlyn and Spencer,” Davidson said.
Bruce Blansett has been selected as the student speaker for the 2010 Commencement at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise on Saturday, May 15.
