Prospective students to preview College from every angle at UVa-Wise 360° April 17

Prospective students and their families are invited to preview The University of Virginia’s College at Wise from all angles during UVa-Wise 360° on Saturday, April 17.

Students get a comprehensive look at campus life during UVa-Wise 360°. The event includes an academic and activities fair, a campus tour and question-and-answer presentations by the admissions counselors.

Clarinet Day set for April 24 at UVa-Wise

Clarinetists of all ages and playing abilities are invited to participate in the Second Annual Clarinet Day at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise on April 24.

Huang-Tiller to lecture on poet E. E. Cummings at UVa-Wise April 19

Gillian Huang-Tiller, associate professor of English at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, will lecture on “The Poetics of Nothingness and E. E. Cummings’ Post-WWII Sonnetry in Xaipe” on Monday, April 19.

The lecture begins at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths. The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Lecture Committee is sponsoring the event.

UVa-Wise benefit gala dinner, concert and silent auction set for May 1st

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will present PRISM 2010, its fifth annual gala dinner, silent auction and concert on Saturday, May 1, at 6 p.m.

The benefit concert has a new venue this year. The event will be staged in the Gilliam Center for the Arts. The facility opened last fall and houses all fine and performing arts programs.

PRISM 2010 celebrates the arts while benefiting the fine arts program and providing for student scholarships at UVa-Wise.

UVa-Wise to offer high-tech cohort degree program this fall

Students have the opportunity this fall to pursue a bachelor’s degree in management information systems through a cohort program offered at the Abingdon and Lebanon campuses of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will host an information session for those interested in learning more about an accounting degree cohort at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon on Monday, May 10, at 5 p.m.

Media relations seminar set for May 24-25 in Lebanon

The Southwest Virginia Technology Development Center is offering its popular “Media Relations: Be Your Own Spokesperson” seminar on May 24-25 in Lebanon.
 
The seminar, held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. each day, is part of SVTDC’s professional development curriculum. Virginia State Senator William Wampler Jr. and Kathy Still, director of news and media relations for The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, will conduct the seminar.
 

Mullins receives 2010 Outstanding Contribution Award

Sue MullinsHer colleagues in the John Cook Wyllie Library say Sue Mullins has contributed to the growth and development of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise throughout her three decades of service.
 
Mullins, winner of the 2010 Leonard Sandridge Outstanding Contribution Award at UVa-Wise, consistently and quietly goes over and above her responsibilities to serve the College. The Pound resident is known to work on agency closing days to ensure deadlines are met for special purchasing discounts, something that is increasingly important in tight budget times.
 

UVa-Wise honors students at 2010 Academic Awards Ceremony

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise recognized the scholastic achievements of nongraduating students during the Academic Awards Ceremony on April 25.

UVa-Wise inducts new Darden Society members

The Darden Society of The University of Virginia’s College at Wise added 39 new members during its induction ceremony on April 29 in the Fred B. Greear Gymnasium.
