Anthropologist McNulty to lecture on morphometrics at UVa-Wise on Nov. 19

Anthropologist Kieran McNulty, associate professor at the University of Minnesota, will discuss advances in three dimensional modeling and geometric morphometrics and how they are applied in human evolutionary research on Nov. 19 at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.

UVa-Wise to celebrate International Education Week

The Office of International Programs at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise is celebrating International Education Week starting Nov. 17.

International Education Week provides an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange programs that are available to UVa-Wise students. Organizers want International Education Week to provide a wealth of information for students who are considering going abroad to learn more about the world.

Darden Professor to Discuss Entrepreneurship and Resilience in Wise Dec. 8-9

November 23, 2010 — Gregory B. Fairchild, associate professor at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business and executive director of the Tayloe Murphy Center will speak Dec. 8 in Wise to business professionals interested in learning about entrepreneurship and personal career management.
 

Blood drive slated for Nov. 30 at UVa-Wise

The Marsh Regional Blood Center will be on campus on Tuesday, Nov. 30 for a blood drive from noon to 5 p.m. in the Cantrell Banquet Hall.

The Marsh Regional Blood Center serves 17 area hospitals.

Participants are urged to eat a well-balanced meal and to drink plenty of fluids before donating. A photo ID is also required. Those who donate blood will get a free t-shirt.

Youngsters invited to ‘Christmas Around the World’ at UVa-Wise on Dec. 1

The Student Virginia Education Association is sponsoring “Christmas Around the World” for children age 12 and younger on Wednesday, Dec. 1 at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.

The free event is set for 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in Cantrell Banquet Hall.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Youngsters will enjoy making Christmas ornaments and crafts with an international theme. Participants will also listen to music from other countries and get a taste of foods from a variety of nations. There will also be a silent auctiion for toy baskets.

Lighting of Crockett Hall set for Dec. 2 at UVa-Wise

The public is invited to The University of Virginia’s College at Wise on Thursday, Dec. 2 at 6.p.m. for the Lighting of Crockett Hall.

The UVa-Wise Student Government Association sponsors the holiday event. Those attending will be treated to hot chocolate and cookies, and The Wise Guys will get the crowd in the holiday spirit with plenty of seasonal tunes.

UVa-Wise Holiday Festival of the Arts events set for December

The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will present several events in December to celebrate the holidays.

The music division presents Music for Trumpets and Organ in the lobby of the Gilliam Center for the Arts lobby on Dec. 1 at 1 p.m. Organist Nathan Jones and the UVa-Wise Trumpet Ensemble will perform. The ensemble is under the direction of Donnie Sorah.

Exam schedule update

Due to inclement weather, UVa-Wise will be closed on Monday, Dec. 6. Exams that were scheduled for Monday will be rescheduled to Saturday.

Alpha Classic set for Dec. 10-11 at UVa-Wise

Several UVa-Wise basketball players will return to the Fred. B. Greear Gymnasium this weekend to coach their high school boys teams in the annual Alpha Classic tournament.

Holiday Festival of the Arts cancelled due to inclement weather

The Holiday Festival of the Arts has been cancelled due to inclement weather. The event was set for Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gilliam Center for the Arts. No word yet on whether the  concert will be rescheduled.
