Teresa A. Sullivan spent the first seven months after she was named president of the University of Virginia in January 2010 learning as much as she could about the institution – mostly from afar, as she completed her duties at the University of Michigan as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs.
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Office of Financial Aid will be hosting a Financial Aid Workshop on Saturday, Feb. 19. The event is designed to help students and parents better understand the financial aid process and give them an opportunity to electronically submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) for the 2011-12 academic year.

Alpha Natural Resources recently presented The University of Virginia’s College at Wise with a $100,000 gift in support of a scholarship program for coal miners and their families.
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise Theater will stage “The Secret Garden” this month in the Gilliam Center for the Arts.
The musical will be presented on Feb. 17, 18, 19, 23, 24 and 25 at 8 p.m. A Feb. 20 performance is set for 2 p.m.
Tickets are $5 and are available at the door. Performances are free to UVa-Wise students, faculty and staff. Reservations are not required or taken.

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise invites the public to attend the Division of Music Honors Recital on Thursday, March 3.
This free event takes place in the Gilliam Center for the Arts theatre at 7:30 p.m. The recital will feature performances by a select group of students chosen by the music faculty from the Fall 2010 juries.
UVa-Wise professors Cindy Wilkey and Brian McKnight are leading a travel study course in American history on Oct. 8 through Oct. 15.
The cohort will travel to Boston to visit the sites of the Salem Witch Trials, the Lexington and Concord battlefields, the John F. Kennedy Library and Museum, Plimoth Plantation and Nathaniel Hawthorne’s House of the Seven Gables.
