Michael Hunt

has worked at the intersections of performance, society, and politics for over twenty-five years. After graduating in Theater with an emphasis on history, theory, and criticism from Furman University, he was a Child Protective Services Investigator in South Carolina for seven years; acted in community theater; renovated houses and built decks; performed dark monologues, wrote comedy skits, and sang in clubs.   Michael received an MFA in Acting from Indiana University, after which he worked as an adjunct instructor in performance art, education director at the Bloomington Playwrights Project, an Animal Control Officer, a school science showman (traveling the southwest fulltime in an RV with his family for two years), Dean of Extended Education at the Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts, and Director of the American Festival Project at Appalshop, the renowned Kentucky media and cultural center. Through the AFP, Michael brought over twenty nationally acclaimed artists, including Suzanne Lacy, Elia Arce, Robbie McCauley, and Nobuko Miyamoto to central Appalachia to consider and create works about local issues in collaboration with local expertise and communities.
