Free online tutoring service now available to UVa-Wise students
Beginning this semester, students at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise in need of assistance with their studies will have access to online tutoring and support through the free Web service SMARTHINKING. Students will have access to the service beginning Jan. 17.
SMARTHINKING provides Web-based tutoring by offering real-time online tutoring for core courses and skills. The free service is available 24 hours a day and seven days a week. The service can be accessed from the online browser of any computer with an Internet connection.
In addition to this new online service, the College’s Tutor Connection, located in Zehmer Hall, will continue to provide free, regularly scheduled tutoring to enrolled students.
“SMARTHINKING is a great way to supplement our existing tutoring services, especially for those students reluctant to seek help in person,” said Whitney Wells, academic coordinator with Student Support Services at UVa-Wise.
Wells said the new service also provides help for those students who may be off-campus when assistance is needed or who are attending classes through the College’s Abingdon campus at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center.
Students can access tutorials in math, business and the sciences, as well as a full range of study resources like writing manuals, sample problems, research tools and study skills manuals.
Instructors also have the option to log in to SMARTHINKING and interact with tutors.
