UVa-Wise to present benefit concert and gala dinner March 1
The Department of Visual and Performing Arts at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will present its third annual Prism Concert on Saturday, March 1, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Fred B. Greear Gymnasium.
The concert will be part of an entire evening celebrating the arts and will include a gala dinner and silent auction that will benefit arts programming and scholarships at the College.
Like the multitude of colors emanating from a crystal prism, the musical Prism Concert stages a multitude of sounds and instrumental compositions in immediate succession from every possible angle of the venue. As a brass quartet finishes a tune in one corner of the hall, the Concert Choir breaks into song from the opposite side of the room; at the moment they finish, attention shifts to the Concert Band in the center of the room already into the first bars of a concert march.
The event will feature every musical ensemble at the College as well as solo, duet, trio and quartet performances by UVa-Wise faculty and students. Emphasis will be on popular, jazz and lighter concert fare along with a few classical standards.
Artwork by UVa-Wise faculty and students will be featured and available for purchase in the silent auction.
The College’s Division of Theatre will provide the lighting and other technical assistance for the evening’s events.
Tickets for the event are $50 per person and may be purchased by calling Assistant Professor of Music David Volk at 276-328-0271.
