Accounting degree cohort now offered through UVa-Wise campus in Abingdon
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will offer students the opportunity to pursue a bachelor’s degree in accounting at its Abingdon campus located within the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center beginning fall 2008.
The accounting degree is designed to prepare students for careers in accounting, finance or entrepreneurship, as well as an MBA or master of accounting program. The cohort program curriculum is designed for students who have completed an articulated Associate of Arts & Sciences community college degree in one of five transfer areas: education, general studies, business administration, liberal arts or science.
“Accounting majors are among the most highly demanded graduates in business and commerce today,” said David Kendall, chair of the UVa-Wise Department of Business and Economics. “Over the years, the accounting program at UVa-Wise has earned a reputation of educating students who are ready to pass their CPA exams and begin high-paying jobs in business or accounting.”
The Bachelor of Science in accounting program is designed for working adults through evening, weekend and online classes. It can be completed in 18 months (including summer sessions). Financial aid is available for qualifying students. Fall semester classes will begin Aug. 20. Upcoming semester schedules for the UVa-Wise Abingdon campus may be viewed online at www.swcenter.edu/uvawise/schedule.htm.
At its Abingdon campus, UVa-Wise also offers bachelor’s degrees in business administration, accounting, management information systems and psychology. Recertification classes for teachers, a library media endorsement and a certificate in accounting are also offered.
