UVa-Wise instructor, students to present discussion on theater program, upcoming spring production
Moving theater students from positions of apprentice to positions of leadership on the stage will be the topic of a presentation given by theater teaching fellow Michael Hunt and several students from the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise.
The April 11th presentation will begin at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths. The event is free and open to the public.
Students Jessica Dotson, Steven Hensley, Rose Johnston and Emily Witucki will discuss the evolving nature of the capstone program in “The Importance of Being a Student-led Theatrical Production in a Liberal Arts Setting: A Case Study of Being Earnest.”
Through its seminar program, the theater department is challenging students to incorporate the whole of their learning into practical application. The presentation will explain the process along with the rewards and difficulties inherent to it.
Hunt, who has been with UVa-Wise for three years, holds a Master of Fine Arts from Indiana University. Dotson is a senior who is directing the spring production of “The Importance of Being Earnest” as part of her senior seminar project. Hensley, Johnston and Witucki are juniors who are designing all elements of the Earnest production as part of their junior practica.
