Blood drive slated for Sept. 9 at UVa-Wise
Greek organizations at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will host a blood drive for the Marsh Regional Blood Center on Sept. 9.
The blood drive, sponsored by the Inter-Fraternity Council and the Panhellenic Council, is slated for 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on the lawn of McCraray Hall on the UVa-Wise campus. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held inside the Marsh bloodmobile, which will be parked adjacent to McCraray Hall.
The Marsh Regional Blood Center serves 17 area hospitals. The Sept. 9 event, which is open to the general public, marks the third time the Greek organizations at UVa-Wise have sponsored a blood drive for the center.
“In times of need, especially now as we enter the hurricane season, people need to donate blood to keep supplies up,” said Josh Justice, assistant director for student activities and Greek life. “Giving blood is one of the best ways to give back to the community.”
Donors who make an appointment to give blood will have their names entered in a drawing for a $25 Wal-Mart gift card. Walk-in donors also are allowed to participate. Every donor will receive a t-shirt for participating in the blood drive.
Participants are urged to eat a well-balanced meal and to drink plenty of fluids before donating.
For more information or to make an appointment, contact Josh Justice at jvj6e@uvawise.edu or by calling 276-376-4514.
