UVa-Wise benefit gala dinner, concert and silent action set for May 2
The UVa-Wise Department of Visual and Performing Arts will present PRISM 2009, its fourth annual gala dinner, silent auction and concert on Saturday, May 2, 2009, beginning at 6 p.m. in the Greear Gymnasium.
The event celebrates the arts while benefitting arts programming and scholarships at the College.
Like the multitude of colors emanating from a crystal prism, the musical “Prism” concert stages a multitude of songs and instrumental works in immediate succession from every possible angle of the concert hall. For example, as a saxophone quintet finishes a tune in one corner of the hall, the Concert Choir breaks into song from the opposite side of the room. At the moment they finish, attention shifts to the Concert Band in the center of the room already into the first bars of a concert march.
The program emphasizes popular, jazz and lighter concert fare with a few classical standards added to the mix and features every musical ensemble of the College. The evening is capped off with artwork and theatrical performances by UVa-Wise students.
Tickets for the event are $50 per person and may be purchased by calling David Volk, assistant professor of music, at 276-328-0271.
