UVa-Wise to preview new Center for the Arts with tour and wine and cheese reception on Oct. 2

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise is offering a sneak peek of its new $14 million Center for the Arts as part of Homecoming 2009 festivities on Oct. 2.

Alumni and visitors are invited to preview of the new Center for the Arts at a wine and cheese reception and tour from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The Center is located near the Lawn by the Lake across from McCrarary Hall. Those who participated in theater productions, music and choir concerts or art on campus are especially invited to the event.

The preview of the Center features an alumni art exhibit in the new art gallery. The Division of Music will showcase several small ensembles at various locations throughout the Center. The Theater Department will hold rehearsals for the upcoming production of “The Tempest” in the courtyard, weather permitting.

Work on the Center for the Arts began in 2007 and the facility opened this fall. The majority of the project is completed but work continues on the theater areas. The completion of the Center for the Arts marks the first time in the College’s history that the Department of Visual and Performing Arts is under the same roof.
