Southwest Virginia Technology Development Center to offer media training workshop Oct. 19-20

The Southwest Virginia Technology Development Center will present a two-day media training workshop to teach professionals to be effective spokespersons for their companies or organizations.

The workshop is scheduled for Oct. 19-20 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Center, located at 141 Highland Drive in Lebanon.

William Wampler and Kathy Still, both with The University of Virginia’s College at Wise, will lead the seminar. UVa-Wise operates the SVTDC.

Wampler’s 22 years of experience fielding media interviews and press conferences and Still’s more than 20 years in journalism make this a dynamic seminar to prepare individuals for both welcome and unwelcome media attention.

This two-day program will also focus on:

• Practical applications such as writing news releases and public service announcements
• Basic interview tips and exercises, including individual television interviews
• New and effective ways to get a company’s word out to consumers and the public
• Basic information about the media’s role and what that means for companies or organizations today

Tuition per participant (which includes materials, lunch and refreshments) is $295. Deadline for registration is Oct. 12.

To register, or for more information, visit www.svtdc.org or call 276-889-8180.
