Noted
statistician to discuss standardized testing at UVa-Wise

William
F. Stout, a professor emeritus of statistics at the University
of Illinois who works with the Education Testing Service,
will discuss the relationship between psychology and standardized
testing on Friday, Oct. 15 at The University of Virginia’s
College at Wise.
Stout’s
presentation entitled “Fine-grained and Cognitively
Based Skills Assessment: A New and Golden Age of Testing”
begins at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths. The lecture
is free and open to the public.
A fellow of the
Institute of Mathematical Statistics and past president
of the Psychometric Society, Stout earned a Ph.D. in probability
from Purdue University. The author of more than 60 scholarly
papers, book chapters and research monographs, Stout’s
major research interests include latent multidimensionality,
test fairness and skills diagnosis. An elected associate
in the University of Illinois Center for Advanced Study;
Stout was twice selected to deliver the keynote address
at international psychometric conferences.
Now celebrating
its 50th anniversary, UVa-Wise is ranked among the nation’s
top ten public liberal arts colleges by U.S. News and World
