UVa-Wise to waive tuition for students affected by Hurricane
Katrina
UVa-Wise
will waive tuition and fees for as many as eight students
affected by Hurricane Katrina. Virginia residents enrolled
in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama colleges and universities
that are unable to hold fall classes because of hurricane
damage will be admitted to UVa-Wise if they meet the College's
admissions requirements. Students still must pay room and
board charges for the semester. "Although the College
has record enrollment this year, we're prepared to make
space available to help these students who have already
endured so much," said Academic Dean Amelia J. Harris.
Fall classes began at UVa-Wise on Aug. 24; however, the
College will provide independent study opportunities as
needed. For more information on this effort, contact the
UVa-Wise Office of Admissions at 1-888-282-9324 or via email
at admissions@uvawise.edu.
