Clark to be Featured on With Good Reason

Amy Clark, an instructor in English and oral communication at The University of Virginia's College at Wise, will be featured on an upcoming segment of the With Good Reason radio program.

With Good Reason

The program titled Overcoming Appalachian Stereotypes will air at 7;30 p.m. on Monday, June 23 on WISE-FM. WISE-FM broadcasts at 90.5 FM in Wise, with translators at 90.1 FM in Big Stone Gap and Washington and Russell counties, 90.3 FM in Clintwood, 91.3 FM in Pound and in Jenkins, Ky., and 91.7 in Norton.

Clark, who studies how people from Appalachian communities feel about their dialect, says many of the region's natives try to change their speech when they move out of the area, hiding their true origin.

The only statewide public radio program in Virginia, With Good Reason is produced for the Virginia Higher Education Broadcasting Consortium by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities and is broadcast in partnership with public radio stations in Virginia, Tennessee and Washington, D.C.
