UVa-Wise to Host 2004 Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign Charity Workshop

The University of Virginia's College at Wise will host a charity workshop on Wednesday, March 17 to help inform local charities about the Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC) and its application process for the 2004 season.

The event will be held in the conference room on the fifth floor of the C. Bascom Slemp Student Center from 1-3 pm.  All charities who have 501C3 IRS status in the Wise, Norton, Big Stone Gap and surrounding areas are encouraged to attend to learn about the fantastic opportunity to become a CVC charity and participate in a campaign with more than 20,000 donors throughout the Commonwealth.

"The campaign has received several requests from state employees in the Wise area to try and recruit more local charities," said Janet Brooking, CVC Campaign Director. "Our primary goal is to be responsive to the needs of our donors.  And if our donors want more charities in the Wise area, we will do our best to make that happen."

The Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign is the annual statewide giving program for state employees. Governor Mark Warner serves as the honorary chair.  In 2003, the campaign raised over $3.2 million to benefit over 1,000 charities in Virginia and the U.S.
