To the Search Committee for the Chancellor of The University of Virginia's College at Wise
Prepare a statement of institutional opportunities for the next Chancellor and a statement of desired characteristics and experience necessary to realize those opportunities, based on input from the College's constituencies.
Conduct an active, national search to attract highly qualified candidates.
Organize and implement the search process, including communications with candidates and references, maintenance of records and arrangements for interviews.
Maintain absolute confidentiality concerning the names of candidates and discussions within the committee throughout the search and beyond.
To the degree possible without compromising confidentiality requirements, report regularly to the President and to members of the College community about the overall progress of the search process.
Organize campus visits for the final candidate(s), if the Committee concludes that such visits would be a positive step in the recruitment process.
Recommend to President Casteen the preferred candidate, with substantiation of the Committee's conclusions that the candidate meets the criteria originally set forth.
