The University of Virginia’s College at Wise football program has received a sizable donation from the loyal Highland Cavalier supporters of Barnette Enterprises, Inc., which owns and operates area Double Kwik markets.
For the 11th consecutive year, Wendell and Brenda Barnette of Barnette Enterprises have donated to UVa-Wise the proceeds from its Double Kwik UVa-Wise Annual Golf Tournament. The tournament is held each year for business associates of Double Kwik at the Lonesome Pine Country Club and Golf Course in Big Stone Gap. This is the 16th year Double Kwik has presented a golf tournament for its business associates.
“We’re honored to be a part of the winning combination of Double Kwik and UVa-Wise,” said Todd Barnette during a recent check presentation attended by the Barnette children.
Todd Barnette was joined by his brother, Ted Barnette, his sister, Wendy Barnette Scott, and her husband, Andrew Scott, for the check presentation. The Barnette brothers own Geneses of Wise.
“It’s a pleasure to present this golf tournament annually, with a record turnout for the past three years,” said Scott, who is an accounts manager for Double Kwik and a 2005 graduate of UVa-Wise.
“We love the tradition of football at UVa-Wise,” said Ted Barnette, “and we hope to continue Double Kwik’s tradition of supporting the UVa-Wise football program.”
Ted’s children, Jade and Jordan, currently are enrolled as students of UVa-Wise.
The only branch campus of the University of Virginia, UVa-Wise is ranked among the nation’s top ten public liberal arts colleges by U.S. News and World Report. UVa-Wise offers Virginia's only undergraduate degree in software engineering, among 28 other degrees and professional programs in the liberal arts tradition of Thomas Jefferson.
