The University of Virginia’s College at Wise is conjuring up fun at Funtasia on Sept. 29 with games and a host of popular movie and cartoon characters. Funtasia will begin at noon in the Gilliam Sculpture Garden with games lasting until 4 p.m.
Characters making special appearances include Harry Potter and friends, Spongebob Squarepants, Shrek, Fiona, Puss in Boots, Spider-Man, Jack Sparrow, Elizabeth Swan, Davey Jones and characters from “High School Musical,” “Ratatouille,” “Happy Feet” and “Cars.”
Children are invited to take part in the costume fun and dress up as any character they choose.
Children can take a tour of the Forbidden Forest, play on the inflatable slide and dino-bouncer or challenge themselves with rock climbing.
Games will include Blast the Ship with Cannonballs, Shrek Ring Toss, Scooby Toss, Dig for Pirate Treasure and Race Cars. Children can also take part in crafts and activities like face painting, pirate headbands and hair beading.
Admission to Funtasia is free. Tickets for games are 25 cents each and most games require two tickets. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Pizza, nachos and cheese, snowcones, popcorn, soft drinks and other snacks will be available.
Funtasia is presented by the Student Virginia Education Association, Pepsi-Cola, the UVa-Wise Student Government Association and the Department of Education. Money collected during Funtasia will be used to buy coats, clothes and toys for SVEA’s annual Christmas drive for needy children.
