GMEC director to present lecture on Nazi physician at UVa-Wise Nov. 26
 |
“Karl Brandt, M.D., Hitler’s Public Health Officer” will be the topic of a special lecture presented by Gary Crum, the executive director of the Southwest Virginia Graduate Medical Education Consortium (GMEC), located at The University of Virginia’s College at Wise. Crum will present the lecture Nov. 26 at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths on the UVa-Wise campus.
An articulate, well-trained physician, Karl Brandt became Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler’s escort physician and was a member of the Fuhrer’s inner circle. By the end of World War II, Brandt had risen to the head of all Nazi health operations, be they military or civilian.
Crum’s lecture will examine Brandt’s involvement in the involuntary euthanasia of hundreds of thousands of disabled patients and the death and disfigurement of tens of thousands of concentration camp medical crime victims. Crum will discuss Brandt’s ethics and professional culpability.
Due to the nature of the presentation’s content, this lecture is recommended for mature audiences.
