Pianist Phillip Hayner to perform Oct. 5 at UVa-Wise

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise will host pianist Phillip Hayner for a 7 p.m. recital in the Chapel of All Faiths on Friday, Oct. 5. The event is free and open to the public.
Hayner’s program, entitled “Romantic Wars: First Blood,” will feature performances of the Liszt B minor Piano Sonata and the Brahms F minor Piano Sonata, and reveals an interesting historical link between the two pieces.
He is a professor of music at Piedmont College in Demorest, Ga. Hayner is a native of Clarklake, Mich., where he began his piano studies with Uarda Foster Saeger. He continued his studies at Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C., and at the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, where he earned a DMA in piano performance.
