Jefferson statue dedication Sept. 26 at UVa-Wise

The public is invited to attend the Sept. 26 dedication of   the Thomas Jefferson statue to be located on the upper campus of The University of Virginia's College at Wise.

 University of Virginia President John T. Casteen III will be the keynote speaker for the event, which begins at 1 p.m. in the Wyllie Library.   The Jefferson statue is a gift from U.Va. in honor of the College's fiftieth anniversary.

 The 500-pound bronze statue stands 72 inches tall and depicts Jefferson signing the Declaration of Independence. An identical work by acclaimed sculptor Edward Hlavka is on permanent display at Mount Rushmore.
