UVa-Wise honors 76 employees who are
‘Making the Difference’

Making the Difference, May 05

The University of Virginia’s College at Wise recently established a new program designed to formally recognize College employees who have dedicated themselves to serving the institution and who have exhibited the highest levels of customer service. For its inaugural year, the UVa-Wise “Making the Difference” Recognition and Reward Program honored 76 outstanding employees of the College.

“Our program has been a terrific hit, not only for those being recognized but also for the many faculty, staff, retirees, students, and community members that have long wished for a more meaningful way to say ‘Thank you’ to College employees,” said Connie Hope, director of the Human Resources Department, which manages the recognition program. “Our employees are more than deserving of this honor and I am proud to facilitate the program.”

Each employee recognized by the program receives a certificate of recognition from his or her supervisor, a special “Making the Difference” golf shirt, and a place on the “Making the Difference” bulletin board. In addition, recognized employees may also receive – at the discretion of the chancellor and vice chancellors – monetary awards of up to $1,000 as well as up to five days off from work with pay.

Only classified wage and classified salaried employees are eligible for recognition, and they must be employed by UVa-Wise for at least 12 consecutive months. To be considered for the program, employees must first be nominated by a supervisor, manager, co-worker, customer, or other outside party. Nominations are submitted to the Human Resources Director who consults with area Vice Chancellors for final approval.
