Runyon
to lecture at UVa-Wise May 10
Justin
Runyon, an entomology student and 1998 graduate of The University
of Virginia’s College at Wise, will discuss his research
on the chemical ecology of plant-insect interactions on
Monday, May 10. The seminar, which is free and open to the
public, begins at noon in the Science Center at UVa-Wise.
A Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Entomology at Penn
State University, Runyon earned his master’s degree
in entomology from Montana State University. The Clintwood
native is credited with discovering a new species of long-legged
fly while doing research in southern Arizona. The males
within the group possess wings of different sizes, Runyon
and his colleagues believe resulted from pressures to communicate
with females during mating.
