The University of Virginia’s College at Wise signed an international agreement in October 2006 to partner with El Tec de Monterrey Campus Saltillo in future educational endeavors.
The partnership will allow students from Wise and Monterrey Tech to pay tuition at their home institutions, but study across the border at the other campus. This will allow students a wide exposure to a different culture and society.
Students are not the only ones who will benefit from the partnership. Faculty will also be included through the possibility of short-duration exchanges and the solicitation of special courses.

Each institution has agreed to accept a maximum of four exchange students each academic year. Students may also enroll for one semester at a time, and two students enrolled for one semester each will be considered the equivalent of one student enrolled for a full academic year.

Participants in the exchange program pay for their own travel, transportation, personal expenses, and room and board. However, each institution will assist in making lodging arrangements.
El Tec de Monterrey’s Saltillo campus is located in northwestern Mexico in a coal mining region. It is one of 33 branch institutions of El Ted de Monterrey. The Saltillo campus has a student body of 1,500.
Saltillo Campus Director Juan Manuel Ruiz Acosta and Monterrey Tech’s Coordinator of International Programs Sandra Vergara Muniz traveled to Wise to sign the agreement during a ceremony at the Chapel of All Faiths.
The College has other international agreements with The University of Istanbul in Turkey; The University of Huelva in Spain; Fundación San Pablo Andalucía CEU “Cardenal Spínola” in Seville, Spain; and Pädagogische Akademie Baden, near Vienna, Austria.
