Giving Thanks Day
Students had an opportunity to show appreciation of the many patrons who provide scholarships and other critical support for UVa-Wise during the second annual Giving Thanks Day on Friday, Nov. 2. The event was held in the Slemp Student Center Atrium.
The event allowed UVa-Wise and its students to show their donors how their generosity makes a difference, said Tami Ely, vice chancellor for development and college relations.
“Our students provide the critical link between the College and its donors in conveying how private support makes a huge difference in the UVa-Wise educational experience,” Ely said.
Each student benefits from private support, but the benefits are often subtle. For instance, the private support behind the Smith Dining Commons essentially provided the equivalent of a scholarship for each student over the next 10 years.
Students who receive scholarships are asked to write a thank-you note to each of their scholarship donors.
