IT Specialist II - Computer and Network Systems Engineer

The University of Virginia's College at Wise invites applications for the position of Computer and Network Systems Engineer.  This position will support the Southwest Virginia Technology Development Center located in Lebanon, Virginia.  The Technology Development Center was created to support the emerging Information Technology industry in the region. This IT Specialist will play a key role in the establishment and on-going operations of the Technology Center.
 
The IT Specialist II will function as the single charge daily administrator for all Center technical operations. This will require broad and general knowledge of IT and audio-visual functions. This position will support the computing and telecommunications network operations as well as associated audio visual operations and procedures for the Southwest Virginia Technology Development Center. The IT Specialist works within a team environment and is responsible for supporting personal computers, peripheral equipment, and communications equipment. This position will also provide support for users' software and hardware needs in addition to customer service activities such as enabling effective client usage of facilities and managing their access to proprietary information systems.  

Candidates must have a strong working knowledge in Windows, Linux, Server and desktop platforms; excellent oral and written communication skills; work well with others in a team based environment; excellent analytical skills; ability to manage in a changing environment and a flexible work schedule.   Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is required along with considerable, related work experience (four – seven years) is required. A+, Network+, MCDST, MCSA, LPIC I certifications are preferred.
